Etna and Alcantara Gorges
Etna and Alcantara Gorges
(May- October)
Etna and Alcantara Gorges is a perfect combination for those who want to discover in a single day two of the most beautiful places in the world. Etna, with its lunar landscapes and the Alcantara Gorges, is the lava stone canyon carved by the water of the river of the same name.
Pick up at 8 am at Piazza Stesicoro near San Biagio church Catania (For those who come from another town and have a rental car we can plan another meeting point). Our first stop will be in a typical Etna Village for a coffee or a fast breakfast. During the day will visit a natural lava cave, we will have an easy and panoramic walking through ancient side craters, and we will visit the places of the last biggest eruption (2002). Here we will have our lunch break. You can bring with you your own picnic (we suggest sandwiches, it will be easier) or you can buy something to eat in one of the little bar/snack of the area.
After lunch, we will drive to the Alcantara Valley (45 minutes far from Etna). After the introduction to this site, you will have spare time to enjoy the gorges (45 minutes). The entrance will be from the public access by stairs if you prefer you can get the elevator (this has an extra cost of about € 4 per person one way € 9 both ways).
Etna: Warm and layered clothing (autumn/winter) weather can vary at any time.
