YOUR SICILIAN EXPERIENCE
Since February 8, Mount Etna has resumed its eruptive activity, offering a breathtaking natural spectacle that hasn’t been seen in years. For those living in Sicily, and especially for us Catanesi, “a Muntagna” is not just a volcano: it is a constant presence, a symbol of strength and beauty that captivates and fascinates. And when it decides to awaken in grand style, we can’t help but rush to admire it!
In recent days, thousands of people have been heading to Mount Etna to witness the glowing lava lighting up the night sky. If you also want to experience this natural wonder, here are the two best ways to do it:
The simplest and most accessible method is to drive to the towns of Adrano, Ragalna, and Biancavilla, where you can enjoy the eruption’s view comfortably from a distance. There is no absolute best observation point: choose the one that fascinates you the most, always respecting traffic rules and safety.
If you want a truly immersive experience, you can rely on expert volcanological guides who will lead you safely as close as possible to the lava flow.
Warning: This hike is not suitable for everyone! It involves a round-trip trek of approximately 10 km, with moderate elevation gain, on snowy trails. If you have health issues or mobility difficulties, it is best to opt for viewing from afar.
When it comes to volcanoes, zero risk does not exist. However, at this moment, Etna offers the opportunity to be admired without direct danger, as long as safety distances and essential guidelines are respected.
These are normal and controllable phenomena, but caution is essential: always follow the authorities’ instructions and, if you choose the excursion, rely on qualified guides.
